PARIS 2024 OLYMPICS: SARAH STEYAERT AND CHARLINE PICON WIN BRONZE!
The 49er FX medallists from La Rochelle, supported in their Olympic preparations by the MRP-NA, concluded an incredible challenge in the best possible way at the last regatta in Marseille last Friday.
With an experienced crew, 2 Olympic medals for Charline (Gold in Rio in 2016 and Silver in Tokyo in 2021 in windsurfing) and 3 Olympic participations for Sarah (Beijing 2008, London 2012 and Rio 2016 in 49er), Charline and Sarah take home the bronze medal.
At the end of an eventful Medal Race, the French took third place on Friday August 2 in Marseille, behind the Dutch who finished first despite a mistake at the end of the course: the pair had stopped thinking they had crossed the finish line, just like the Swedes who took silver.
The “49efx_mama_team” took the lead in the overall standings and started the final round with a cautious start, only to find that the Dutch and Swedes were untouchable. With their sights set on the podium, they pulled out all the stops, pulling off a daring manoeuvre midway through the race to claim a magnificent third place.
Quite a feat for this crew nicknamed ” The Mamas “, (both of whom chose to have a child between two Olympiads). Formed only 3 years ago!
They have been supported for 2 years now by the MRP Nouvelle Aquitaine, who believed in the bold project of these 2 mothers based at the Pôle France Voile in La Rochelle. Numerous initiatives have been put in place to ensure that they are in the best possible condition in their quest for the Olympics: material assistance, support in mental and physical preparation, optimization of recovery…).
The 2 sportswomen win France’s first Olympic medal in this discipline (49erFX), which has been present at the Games for 24 years.
Well done to them and their stafff!!!!
